CLINICAL-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF GASTROSTOMIZED CHILDREN CARE FOR BY A SPECIALIZED SERVICE IN SPECIAL DEVICES IN THE INTERIOR OF PARÁ

Introdução

Gastrostomy consists of an artificial opening in the stomach, using a catheter/probe whose permanence is temporary or permanent. Regarding the main indications, the following stand out: feeding due to neurological disorders, gastric decompression, extensive facial trauma, obstruction or strictures that affect the alimentary tract, among others. Therefore, in the pediatric age group, the use of this device is essential in cases of dysphagia due to neonatal neurological deficit, being an important tool to guarantee nutritional needs. Therefore, the existence of specialized services in this care is essential in order to improve the prognosis and guarantee access to personalized health services for this public.

Objetivo

To present the epidemiological profile of children with gastrostomy treated in a special devices clinic in the interior of the state of Pará in the last 3 years

Método

This is a retrospective and descriptive study of research on medical records of pediatric patients with gastrostomy, treated at a Pediatric Outpatient Clinic with Special Devices, between 2021 and 2024. It is worth noting that the study was approved by the Ethics Committee (CAAE: 77419423.4 .0000.8607).

Resultados

In the period evaluated, there were 40 children treated, so the majority were female (60%), the age group 1 to 3 years constituted 79% of the patients and the majority were of mixed race (51%). Regarding the device used, 35 children use the silicone probe and only 5 use the button type, the most common indication involves nutritional needs due to neurological dysphagia (95%); As for complications, accidental tube exit and granuloma are the most prevalent, respectively, 60% and 47%.

Conclusão

Based on the data presented, the predominant age group is mainly related to early intervention in the face of manifested neurological deficits; Furthermore, the use of silicone probes is more common because they are more financially accessible and more available on the market; the main indication refers to an important cause of perinatal anoxia, resulting in difficulty swallowing and the need for gastrostomy. Therefore, it is highlighted the importance of knowing and publicizing specialized places with a multidisciplinary team that meets the demands of these children and provides a better quality of life and reduced stigma.
